Light the Lanes
The pitch black village streets of Peene were the perfect backdrop for the procession of neon dancers and large and small brightly lit lanterns
Peene Barn became our production space in 2008, after the Folkestone earthquake damaged our Cheriton base, and this was the first opportunity we had found to create a event that would involve the villagers of Peene.
A Learning Revolution funded workshop programme had enabled Strange Cargo to work with six young people to create backpack lanterns and to teach lantern making. Along with our artist team they delivered public lantern workshops to the villagers and had a fantastic time on the night working as part of our team.
The procession wound its way through the small village lanes arriving at our festively decorated barn, where we joined the villagers to listen to the beautiful voices of the Ashford Choral Society.
