What is Public Space For? Our desire to highlight the social and political issues that impact on the use of public space has resulted in a number of highly innovative projects with communities.
With many communities polarised over how to deal with the young people in their public spaces, our project Pimp My Bench explored, through cultural engagement, the issues and experiences of young people in our towns and cities.
The local impact of cuts in EU subsidies provided the starting point for the Fallen Fruit project. Inspired by George Monbiot's article entitled "Fallen Fruit" which focussed on the demise of the Kentish apple orchards. We worked with composer Orlando Gough for the performance which combined a choir of 300 voices with a sinister automaton crushing tonnes of apples whilst releasing an incredible aroma.
