Charivari Day 2019
Folkestone / July 2019
Make a date with Strange Cargo to enjoy our spectacular and colourful Charivari Day carnival again this summer. If you are on the streets of Folkestone on 6th July and you hear the sound of distant drumming, then it means that Charivari Day is heading your way. The 2019 carnival parade, entitled A Night at the Movies, is a celebration of the Red Carpet outfits, world cinema, film stars and those iconic blockbusters from Willy Wonka to Frankenstein. Strange Cargo’s trained carnival artist teams will be working with people from across the district to create the six themed sections based on the movies. In total 27 schools from across the district will be taking part in the carnival on the Saturday 6th July, alongside community groups and public workshop participants. The parade of costumes, dancers and boisterous drumming bands will be setting off at 2pm from The Stade at Folkestone’s fishmarket, before heading up the Old High Street, through Sandgate Road precinct before joining The Leas at West Terrace and heading to the finale point at The Leas Bandstand. Following the parade there will be an afternoon of music playing at the bandstand with the amazing line-up of streetbandsm, followed by a music programme on the Leas Bandstand until 6.30pm.
The event can only happen because of generous support from our funders. Our grateful thanks go to Arts Council England, Folkestone & Hythe District Council, The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust and Creative Foundation, Cllrs. Love, Wheeler, Monk, Dearden, Ewart-Jones and the Rotary Club of Folkestone Channel.
