lily the herne bay giant
Herne Bay on the Kent coast, is an authentic 21st century seaside town connected very firmly to its Victorian heritage. In early 2006 Strange Cargo spent an enjoyable month on the streets of the town and in residence at the magnificent Kings Hall. Large number of local residents took part in consultation and open days, and agreed that their Giant should be a beautiful lady who would reflect their long history of fishing, tourism, and of course their very beautiful and familiar victorian architecture.
Lily was named by local people after the Fleur de Lis which is a prevalent motif in the local architectural ironwork Awakened by the Sheriff of Canterbury to a musical sea shanty ceremony, she paraded through the town with her Fishy Big Head companions.
