Over the past weeks teams of artists worked with children in local primary schools to make the hundreds of hand held, candle lit lanterns that are destined to bring a glow of wintery magic to the chilly December air. Two teams of older students from Folkestone Academy and Folkestone School for Girls will be working alongside a team of professional artists using traditional tissue and willow techniques to build the large scale, electrically lit lantern sculptures that will carried aloft to lead the parade. A group from Boulogne will travel over with their lanterns to take part too.
The Winter Wishes Lantern Procession starts at 5pm. The route goes from Sandgate Road precinct (outside Debenhams), The Bayle, The Old High Street, The Stade and finishes on The Sunny Sands where Carnival Collective will perform their finale set from 6 – 7pm.
