aveley primary - looking beyond

Headteacher Miss Nicola Shadbolt, was keen to give her staff the opportunity to explore their own creative abilities, and to work aspirationally to inform future projects for the school and wider community.

The entire staff spent two days with us in our workshop in Folkestone learning how to produce withie lanterns in order to create a lantern parade for their village. Day two was spent exploring the personal and professional aspirations of everyone involved, using simple but effective techniques and large amounts of colourful materials to build elaborate structures to represent their aspirations.

Back at school, the teachers went on to not only teach lantern making to their pupils, but the whole village and neighbouring schools to create an amazing lantern parade.
The school reported that the experience was an inspiration and has been the catalyst for many new projects.
