We were fortunate enough to receive some funding from the Learning Revolution as part of the Family Learning Festival - the biggest annual celebration of family learning.
A training programme for young unemployed people was created. Folkestone, though a centre of regeneration through the arts, is also statistically an area of deprivation and our aim was to give some local young people the confidence and skills to take their lives forward either through work or study, and maybe into the creative industries.
The group created large scale backpack lantern builds and were taught withie lanterns and workshop practice as well as informal careers advice. Along with the Strange Cargo artist team they delivered lantern workshops to the families in the village and worked as part of our team on the Light the Lanes lantern event, learning event management and stewarding.
This was a successful training programme leading to a number of the group getting involved in other projects.
