communities & young people
Working towards an event or performance teaches people how to express themselves, be part of a team and feel part of their community.
Confidence, sociability and motivation are learned alongside practical skills like making, planning and fundraising.
People of all ages step forward to take part in projects, go on to increase their skills and even return to mentor and develop others in cross-generational and family workshops. Long-term relationships like this also benefit Strange Cargo, as an increasing understanding of our ethos and practices gives people deeper engagement and input to our projects.
Projects like Mencap Carnival Handbook, Sheddavent, Film 4 Folkestone and Transcription Projects connect groups to the wider community, contribute to the well being of the community, foster collaboration and involve families.
